WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18
PROGRAM #10809  12:00 PM PT

Follow-up on Los Angeles.

The city became the epicenter of opposition to the Trump administration, with hundreds of protesters demanding a shift in White House policy. We review how the situation is evolving.

Guest: Alejandro Maciel, reporter, Los Angeles, CA.

Advocates Under Threat. The Coalition for Immigrant Human Rights (CHIRLA) has been accused of funding Los Angeles’s demonstrations. The organization, which has been operating in California for decades, has emphasized that its mission is based on nonviolent advocacy, community safety, and democratic values. Where do the accusations against CHIRLA come from? What precedent does this investigation set? Is the inquiry a form of criminalizing protest?

Defending Housing Access. A bipartisan group of mayors and business leaders is coming together to address housing and homelessness issues in the United States. They are meeting as the Trump administration seeks to cut assistance programs amid a historic record of homelessness. How does the law under debate threaten access to housing? We analyze the implications of these cuts and their impact on the most vulnerable communities.

Guests: Paulette Soltani, co-Director, Vocal-Texas, Austin, TX; Matt Tuerk, Mayor, City of Allentown, PA today from the Mayors’ Summit in Tampa, FL.

UN Ocean Conference: A Review. The United States was notably absent from the 2025 Nice Summit, which focused on regulating deep-sea mining, a plan that clashes with the recent decree from the Trump administration. What does the U.S. separation from this debate mean? What were the key takeaways from the meeting? Why is ocean conservation considered an urgent issue amidst the climate crisis?

Guest: Víctor Rodríguez, Reporter, Baja California, MX.
