Flotilla Bound for Gaza

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8
PROGRAM #10890 12:00 PM PT
Flotilla Bound for Gaza.
An international flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza has set sail from Barcelona, Spain, in the largest maritime effort to break the Israeli blockade. Around 20 ships with activists from dozens of countries aim to deliver food and medicine as Israel intensifies its offensive and restricts basic supplies in the Gaza Strip. Who is part of this mission? What dangers do they face? What protection do they have? What has life at sea been like so far?
Guest: Ernesto Ledesma, Journalist and Director, Rompeviento TV, former Coordinator of the Center for Political Analysis and Social and Economic Research, Mexico City, MX today from Tunisia.
Legislators Against Militarization. Outraged by the deployment of armed federal agents and troops in Washington, D.C., members of Congress have denounced the use of the National Guard as a political tool. They warn that the presence of military force has sparked fear, chaos, and suppressed peaceful protest. This is not an isolated event. The threat of militarizing other cities—such as Chicago, Baltimore, and New York—targets immigrant communities, people of color, and critics of the administration.
Guest: Shayna Kessler, Director of the Advancing Universal Representation initiative, Vera Institute of Justice, Brooklyn, NY.
Anti- and Pro-Vaccines Fronts. Florida has announced plans to eliminate all vaccine mandates for diseases like measles and polio, becoming the first state to dismantle school immunization requirements. Meanwhile, the governors of California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii are forming a united front, pledging to work together on vaccine guidance amid a growing crisis of confidence in federal agencies. What are the consequences of this political divide in public health policy? What risks does it pose for children and disease prevention? What are the independent vaccine policies set by several dissident states?
Guest: Mayra E. Alvarez, President, The Children’s Partnership, Los Angeles, CA.
