First Commission on Immigration Abuses Created.

The Illinois Accountability Commission held its first public hearing to investigate abuses committed by federal immigration agents in Chicago. Doctors and witnesses detailed the physical and psychological effects of the use of chemical agents and excessive force against protesters and bystanders during the so-called “Operation Midway Blitz.” Created by order of Governor JB Pritzker, this truth commission of sorts will document violations, provide a portal for citizens to file complaints, and present legal and public policy recommendations in the coming months.

Guest: Rey Wences, Senior Director of Deportation Defense, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights-ICIRR, Chicago, IL.

The Future of TPS for Venezuelans. Uncertainty grows for thousands of Venezuelans following the Department of Homeland Security’s reversal, which overruled its own secretary, Kristi Noem, and denied that those with Temporary Protected Status can apply for asylum. The DHS now maintains that they must return to Venezuela after their protections expired between October and November, following a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the White House to move forward while the legal dispute continues. What options remain? What risks do they face? How does this decision impact migrant families?

Guest: Carlos Trujillo, Immigration Attorney, Trujillo / Acosta Law, South Jordan, UT.
