Overuse and drought due to global warming have severely altered the once mighty Colorado River. The waterway no longer reaches the Gulf of California, as it did more than six decades ago. As a result, the Colorado River delta, located on the Mexican side of the border, has become dry and desolate. To combat the environmental deterioration, a bi-national organization has rallied neighbors and volunteers around a habitat restoration project called Laguna Grande. The project is giving hope to environmentalists and residents of the region. Alejandro Maciel visited the project and reports from Mexicali.
