El Grito Returns

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

PROGRAM #11268 11:00 AM PT

El Grito Returns.

Mexican Independence Day celebrations are returning to many U.S. cities after being canceled last year amid fears of ICE operations. Chicago, the epicenter of one of the most aggressive enforcement actions, is marking Mexico’s independence with the return of the El Grito festival and the traditional Little Village parade. Officials are promising heightened security, while community leaders are working to restore a sense of joy and support local businesses. How is the Mexican community experiencing this return? How do residents remember last year’s tragic events? And what is happening in other cities across the country?

Guests: Fabiola Adunas, Community Relations and SBDC Director, Binational Institute of Human Development – Casa Mexico USA, Chicago, IL; Mariana Pineda, Reporter, Houston, TX; José López Zamorano, Reporter, Washington, DC; Araceli Martinez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA; Elvia Diaz, Reporter, Phoenix, AZ; Diana Montaño, Reporter, Miami, FL; Marco Vinicio González, Reporter, New York, NY.

Great Valley Gathering. The living traditions of California’s Central Valley will be celebrated with music, dance and food tastings at a free, three-day public event from 2 to 4 October 2026 in the city of Fresno. The event, called “El Gran Convivio del Valle”, will feature craft demonstrations and talks of interest to all ages and cultures. One of the organizers will give more details in this program.

Guest: Dr. Leticia Soto Flores, co-Director, Alliance for Traditional Arts of California-ACTA, Los Angeles, CA.
