Latinos Affected by Oil Industry Giant Demand Answers about Respiratory Problems – In Texas, in the vicinity of the largest petrochemical complex in the country, communities are exposed to polluted air caused by the giant oil industry. To warn the population to take protective measures, decades ago the state’s environmental authorities installed dozens of monitors. However, the information on these monitors is difficult to understand and is not available in Spanish, leaving countless residents in the dark. Reporters Alejandra Martinez and Wendy Selene Perez spoke with affected neighbors and share their stories from Cloverleaf, Texas. This story is sponsored in part by the Altavoz Lab environmental grant and was produced in partnership with the Texas Tribune and Environmental Health News.
