Earning the Trust of Drinkers.

Community health workers are helping Latinos who misuse alcohol and other substances rethink their habits and reduce consumption—something traditional treatment approaches have often failed to achieve. How do these health workers build trust and motivate Latinos to cut back on drinking? Researchers in California who studied the issue share their findings.

Guests: Xóchitl Castañeda, National Coordinator, Health Commission of the Collective of Mexican Migrant Federations and Organizations (Colefom), and Founding Director, Health Initiative of the Americas, UC Berkeley School of Public Health, Berkeley, CA; Blanca Melendrez, Executive Director, UC San Diego Center for Community Health, San Diego, CA; Karemi Alvarez, Senior Manager, UC San Diego Center for Community Health, San Diego, CA.
