PROGRAM #10134 12:00 PM PT

Drug Addictions: The Public Responds. There is a lot of bad news when it comes to drug addiction. The numbers of people abusing drugs and dying from drug overdoses are growing. The good news is that most people in the US believe they know how to treat addictions, how to get help for a friend or family member struggling with addiction and are open to talk to them. This is what the American Psychiatric Association found in a new opinion poll on time for National Recovery Month. Listeners called with testimonials and comments on the poll findings.

Fentanyl and the Drug War. Fentanyl overdose deaths are becoming common around the US. This drug crisis has forced some in Congress to target fentanyl use and overdose. While some bills focus on harsher criminal penalties such as expanding mandatory minimum sentencing, others address it as a public health crisis, proposing more access to treatments and test strips. What’s Congress likely to do?

Guest: José López Zamorano, Reportero, Washington, D.C.
