Published March 21, 2025

TUESDAY, MARCH 25
PROGRAM #10723 11:00 AM PT

Extra Edition: Colon Cancer Rises in Younger Adults. (Program Repeat).

For Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and as cancer tops the deaths among Latinos in the US, a leading colorectal surgeon discusses the alarming rise of colorectal cancer in younger adults, the importance of screening to detect cancer early and lifestyle changes to reduce cancer risk. Why are we seeing more colorectal cancer cases in younger adults and how can we encourage people to get screened? If someone receives a colorectal cancer diagnosis, what should they know about treatment options? In another story, a Latina patient shares her personal experience performing a simple at-home test for colon cancer screening. She now wants others in her community to know about this affordable option and dispel fears about these medical exams. This program was originally aired on March 18, 2025.

Guests: Dr. Roberto Rodriguez-Ruesga, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Colorectal Surgeon, Texas Oncology, Dallas, TX; Rosa Miguel, Participant Member, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Colorectal Cancer Health Equity Dream Team, Los Angeles, CA.

State Funding to Defend Immigrant Families. After hearing from constituents in California’s Central Valley, leading state assembly members discuss the challenges that immigrant communities are currently facing and comment about their plans to protect immigrant families from the federal crackdown, including efforts to continue making Medi-Cal accessible to immigrants despite the threat against Medicaid funds, more funding for legal services to make legal aid available to immigrants, and the renewed effort to let undocumented workers apply for unemployment benefits.

Guests: California State Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria, D-Fresno; California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, D-Holister; California State Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula, D-Fresno.
