Climate Crisis Hits the Undocumented.

Fear sparked by ICE raids has emptied fields and workplaces in states like California. Many workers, afraid of being detained, have stopped showing up to work, leaving those who do with heavier workloads under increasingly extreme heat. Summer has just begun, and its consequences are already being felt. Meanwhile, entire families are staying indoors to avoid risks, forgoing basic activities to keep cool. Are these raids pushing immigrants into life-threatening situations? Is there evidence of increased heat-related illnesses linked to ICE operations? What do public health experts recommend?

Guest: Luz Gallegos, Executive Director, TODEC Legal Center, Perris, CA.

The Trump Administration Cuts Off Access to Healthcare for Dreamers. Starting this month, hundreds of immigrants who grew up in the US will lose their health coverage following a regulatory change that prevents them from purchasing or maintaining insurance acquired under the Affordable Care Act. The changes are part of an announcement involving several agencies, which revokes an interpretation of federal law that had allowed unauthorized immigrants to access certain programs.

Guest: Patricia Izquierdo, Public Information Officer, Covered CA, Sacramento, CA.

Know Your Rights: What Documents Should You Carry? In times of mass surveillance, stops, and ICE searches, carrying identification in the U.S. is more than a precaution; it’s a basic form of legal protection. Even U.S. citizens can face serious consequences if they fail to identify themselves properly. For many, the lack of documentation can lead to detention, fines, or loss of immigration status. What forms of ID are legally valid? What alternatives exist for those without papers? What should you do if you’re detained without documents?

Guest: Christopher Vizcardo, Attorney, Trujillo / Acosta Law, South Jordan, UT.
