President Trump has ordered the National Park Service to remove or cover up materials about slavery and Indigenous peoples that “disparage Americans.” This is not an isolated case: the Smithsonian Institution has also come under fire for focusing too much on “how bad slavery was” and for highlighting the work of artists critical of the official history narrative.
