California and Its Debt to Women

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25
PROGRAM #1096 11:00 PM PT
California and Its Debt to Women.
Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, nearly one in three women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence at least once in her lifetime. In California, the number of women killed has risen, an even harsher reality for Latinas, yet one that often remains invisible. The United States does not classify femicide as a specific crime. This special program marks November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Guests: Sen. Susan Rubio, California Senator (D-22), Sacramento, CA; Yenifer López, Salvadoran immigrant, survivor of gender-based violence, Redwood City, CA; Desirée Yépez, journalist specializing in human rights and gender, Managing Producer of National News, Radio Bilingüe, Palo Alto, CA.
