Although the Supreme Court dealt Trump a blow by ruling that he could not use an executive order to modify birthright citizenship, political analysts suggest Trump gained ground by shaping the narrative and promoting the idea that children of undocumented immigrants do not deserve citizenship. Even a Supreme Court justice suggested Congress rewrite the law to establish new exceptions to birthright citizenship. Trump wants the Court to rehear the birthright citizenship case and demanded Congress begin the process; congressional leaders are talking about launching the long process of amending the Constitution, and the Justice Department announced measures against birth tourism. What will the new battles over birthright citizenship look like?
