Artificial Intelligence for Beginners.

The White House has unveiled an ambitious national plan on artificial intelligence, known as the “AI Action Plan.” Marking a significant policy shift, the plan deprioritizes safety in favor of innovation, aiming to “win the AI race” and secure economic and military advantages. To understand its scope, we’re launching a special series, starting with a primer on AI’s role today. What opportunities does it offer, and what risks lie ahead? Can it think like a human? Could it take over social decisions or worsen unemployment and discrimination?

Guests: Dr. Paola Ricaurte Quijano, Faculty Associate, Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, Harvard University and Tenured Research Professor, Department of Media and Digital Culture, School of Humanities and Education, Tecnologico de Monterrey, Monterrey, MX; Ana Quintero Ossa, Community Program Manager, Accel.AI, Bogota, Colombia.

Immigration Court System in Crisis. As immigration courts face an unprecedented backlog, judges in several states are being dismissed. Although the new federal budget allocates billions of dollars to strengthen the system, including funding for more judges, hiring and training them will take time. How can due process be guaranteed when the very structure meant to review millions of pending cases is being weakened? What’s driving the dismissal of judges? And what role do they play in the broader mass deportation agenda?

Guest: Kira Romero-Craft, Attorney, Brennan Center for Justice, Orlando, FL.
