Arizona Courts Seek to Block New State Deportation Law

In Arizona, a state law took effect in mid-July that makes crossing the border outside official ports of entry a crime punishable by jail time and deportation. In response to this measure, civil rights organizations filed a lawsuit in court, arguing that the law violates the Constitution by encroaching on powers exclusive to the federal government.
