Abrego Garcia Case: A Challenge to the Rule of Law – The wrongful deportation of Salvadoran immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia and the refusal to return him to the United States has become a polarized political and legal battle. Democratic legislators and lawyers believe the underlying issue is whether the executive can refuse to disobey a judge’s orders with impunity, in addition to ignoring due process. Approval of Teen Employment in Florida in Doubt – Florida’s lower house is about to vote on a controversial bill that authorizes work for minors. However, just days before the close of the regular session, the bill remained stalled in the Senate. Critics had questioned whether it could become law. They also warned that given the shortage of workers due to anti-immigrant policies, authorizing the employment for minors could distract them from their studies and make them vulnerable to workplace abuses. Why do Many Pregnant Latinas Fail to Get Mental Health Treatment? – Four out of every ten Latinas who give birth have experienced mental health disorders, such as postpartum depression. But studies show most do not receive medical attention. Mothers in rural areas, such as California’s Central Valley, face additional challenges, including the stigma of seeking mental health services. Daniela Rodriguez spoke with a mother who suffered from depression throughout her pregnancies and tells her story of resilience from Tulare, California.
