An Increasingly Suffocating Economy

PROGRAM #11124 12:00 PM PT

An Increasingly Suffocating Economy.

Economic anxiety has moved beyond a pocketbook issue and become a full-blown household stability crisis. More than 70% of Americans fear they cannot cover their basic needs. Inflation and rising fuel prices are squeezing harder by the day — that is what a new national survey reveals. Who is accountable for this crisis? What are people saying? Which bills are hardest to pay? And what is happening with fuel prices?

Guest: Diana Castaneda, Senior Vice President of Communications, Voto Latino, Washington, DC.

Political Forums in the Central Valley — and a New Supreme Court Ruling. With less than two months to go before California’s 2026 primary elections, Radio Bilingüe held the first of several nonpartisan public forums in the San Joaquin Valley, bringing together candidates and voters to debate health care, immigration, environment, and economy. And in a last-minute development, the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act, limiting the use of racial criteria in drawing electoral districts and opening the door to redistricting that could benefit Republicans. What does this ruling mean?

Guest: Samuel Orozco, News & Information Director, Radio Bilingüe, Fresno, CA.

United San Joaquín. As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, more than 1,000 residents and leaders from the San Joaquin Valley are gathering at Fresno State University to launch United San Joaquín — a new nonpartisan organization affiliated with the country’s oldest and largest community organizing network. Its mission is to turn the founding ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness into concrete local action. How do they plan to do it? What does this coalition stand for? What can it achieve in the Central Valley? And why does local organizing matter now more than ever?

Guest: Martha Rodríguez-Torres, Board President, United San Joaquin, Fresno, CA.
