Altadena Fires: The Recovery

By Radio Bilingüe
Published February 11, 2025

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11
PROGRAM #10681 11:00 AM PT

Extra Edition: Altadena Fires: The Recovery.

Residents in the area devastated by the Eaton fire struggle to remove debris, clean up hazardous materials and rebuild. In this program, a news reporter tells the story of a Latino homeowner whose house burned down and had no homeowners insurance and reports on the threat of landslides as residents brace for the rains. In more news, a leader of a local emergency aid organization explains how people affected by the fires can get emergency shelter, food and recovery assistance. Also, child care providers who lost their homes call on Gov. Newsom to extend fire relief for them and the families who rely on them, warning that without state support these Black and Latina businesses will disappear. Finally, state officials discuss Gov. Newsom’s plans to fast track clean up and recovery, build more temporary housing, and make it easier for survivors to get help, such as child care, education, rental housing, health care, and tax relief.

Guests: Araceli Martinez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA; Andres Colmenares, Spokesperson, 211 LA, Los Angeles, CA; Arlene Diaz Carrero, Spokesperson, Federal Emergency Management Agency-FEMA, Los Angeles, CA.
