A Tribute to Totó la Momposina. 

Legendary singer Totó la Momposina, a defining figure of cumbia and Colombian music, passed away on May 17th in Celaya, Mexico. The Colombian icon will be remembered as “a woman who, with her extraordinary voice and devotion, carried the culture and memory of the Colombian people to every corner of the world. Her joy, light, wisdom, talent, generosity, and countless other virtues touched the lives of innumerable people.” In 2006, our news and information director, Samuel Orozco, sat down with this icon of Afro-Caribbean rhythms in San Francisco, California.
