THURSDAY, JULY 17
PROGRAM #10839 12:00 PM PT

Sin Fronteras. This is a program of “Sin Fronteras,” a special series to serve audiences in the US and Mexico with breaking news and analysis about major developments impacting Latinos in the US.

Guests: Jose Lopez Zamorano, Reporter, Washington, DC; Alejandro Maciel, Reporter, Los Ángeles, CA; Jesus Sanchez Melean, Executive Director, El Comercio de Colorado Newspaper, Denver, CO.

Flooding in Texas: The Big Questions.

More than a hundred people have died, and dozens remain missing in the historic flooding that took communities living along the Guadalupe River in central Texas by surprise. The tragedy has raised many questions. Why wasn’t the state of Texas prepared to protect residents in high-risk areas? Why was the federal weather service unable to respond effectively? How much did climate change contribute to the disaster? How much did misinformation play a role? Could this tragedy happen again?

Guest: Dr. Kelly M. Núñez Ocasio, Assistant Professor, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX.

The Fight for Reproductive Rights. Although a judge temporarily blocked part of Trump’s mega-plan that prohibits Medicaid funding for family planning clinics, White House lawyers are still litigating the huge cuts to reproductive health services. What does this restriction mean for access to healthcare? How would it impact mothers and babies in rural areas and so-called “maternity care deserts”? What resources do health care advocates have in the fight ahead?

Guest: Alejandra Soto, Director of Latino Communications, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Votes, New York, NY.
