Chaos at U.S. Airports Will Persist.
Airport conditions across the United States are not improving following the federal shutdown–related restrictions on air traffic. With thousands of flights delayed or canceled and major hubs overwhelmed, authorities warn the situation may get worse before it gets better. One week before Thanksgiving, travelers face long lines, uncertainty, and few alternatives. Will contingency plans be implemented? What are airlines and experts advising as the year’s most severe aviation crisis unfolds?
Guest: Araceli Martinez, Reporter, Los Angeles, CA today from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, MX.
Charlotte, the new scene of ICE raids. Federal raids shook Charlotte, a city governed by Democrats, where a senior Border Patrol official “celebrated” dozens of arrests while residents reported operations in churches, homes, and businesses. The city, with falling crime rates, became the new target of Trump’s immigration offensive, with operations later spreading to Raleigh, the state’s second most populous city. Videos show assaults even against U.S. citizens. What is the toll so far? What is known about those arrested? Why Charlotte? What do local leaders and legal experts say?
Guest: Karina Neyra, Community Investment Director, El Pueblo, Inc., Raleigh, NC.
ICE Ads in Spanish Spark Outcry. Spanish-language networks Univision and Telemundo are airing part of a multimillion-dollar DHS ad campaign in which Kristi Noem warns undocumented immigrants: “Leave now or we will remove you.” Immigrant-rights advocates, united under the call to “turn off the hate,” are pressuring executives to pull the ads, arguing they spread fear and coerce people into self-deporting.
Guest: Jorge Gutierrez, Organizational leader of the “Apaga el Odio” campaign, Mijente, Los Angeles, CA.
Pro-Peace Jewish Activists Denounce Violence Against Palestinians. A Jewish member of an international volunteer delegation has returned from the West Bank, where he supported Palestinian farmers and helped deter escalating settler violence during the annual olive harvest. He reports that the mistreatment of Palestinians is part of Israeli government efforts—backed by the United States—to annex the Occupied Territories. Violence in the West Bank, much of it carried out by U.S. settlers, has intensified following the cease-fire in Gaza.
Guest: Sidney Levy, Member, Jewish Voice for Peace, Bay Area and Center for Jewish Nonviolence, San Francisco, CA.
