PROGRAM #10934 12:00 PM PT
Live from Memphis! Latinos Resist Military Deployment.
Hundreds have been arrested in Memphis after the Trump administration deployed a tactical task force made up of ICE, FBI, and DEA agents, and the National Guard. The official narrative cites efforts to curb the rise of violent crimes. However, reports show that many arrests have targeted immigrants and Latinos. What is the atmosphere in this Democratic stronghold? How are immigrant and Latino families coping? What has been the local government’s response? What are the social and economic costs for the city and its communities? This special program is broadcast live from Memphis, Tennessee in collaboration with local station WGSF, Radio Ambiente.
Guests: Miguel Rocha, Immigration Attorney, Advocates for Immigrant Rights, Memphis, TN; María Oceja, Co-founder and Organizer, Vecindarios 901, Memphis, TN; Maria Rivera, Residente, Wheel Estates Mobile Home Park, Whitehaven, TN; Ivette Butron Ramos, CEO, Radio Ambiente 1030 AM, Memphis, TN; excerpts from recent statements by mayor of Memphis, Paul Young; and Memphis Police Chief, Cerelyn “CJ” Davis.
