PROGRAM #11053 12:00 PM PT
Know Your Rights: Agents Targeting Green Card Applicants.
There has been a growing number of ICE detentions of foreign spouses of U.S. citizens—including military families—during routine green card interviews. Agents are no longer targeting only individuals with prior deportation orders; they are also detaining immigrants with no criminal or immigration record. How can you prepare for this type of appointment? What precautions should you take? What should you do if an agent attempts to detain you?
Guest: Alma Rosa Nieto, Immigration Attorney, Los Angeles, CA.
Minneapolis After the Raids. The federal government announced the end of Operation Metro Surge, the massive offensive by immigration agents in Minnesota that, since December, resulted in thousands of arrests, mass protests, and the deaths of two U.S. citizens at the hands of federal agents. Although the withdrawal will be gradual, the scars of violence and social resistance have marked the community. What will Minnesota look like after this chapter? Who will address the trauma inflicted? Is it possible to return to calm with operations still underway? What plans are in place for recovery and reconstruction?
Guest: Kelly Petersen, Co-founder, MN Community Aid Network, Minneapolis, MN.
Community Watch Organizing. Faced with the sudden deployment of armed federal operations to pursue immigrants in major U.S. cities, many in immigrant communities are rushing to organize a response, obtain legal support, and warn neighbors about the operations. Natalia Matamoros, a reporter for the Mexican Radio Institute, chronicles some of these community efforts in this special collaborative report.
Guest: Natalia Matamoros, Reporter, Mexican Radio Institute-IMER, Mexico City, MX.
