Border Patrol Called to Task.
A federal judge barred the US Border Patrol from carrying out more operations in Central California without a warrant, after local civil rights groups sued over an operation called “Return to Sender” in Latino areas of Kern County. Dozens were deported to Mexico and one US citizen was wrongly detained. A news reporter explains the court decision.
Guest: Melissa Montalvo, Accountability Reporter, The Fresno Bee, Fresno, CA.
Arrests of 14 union organizers in Albion/Buffalo. The United Farm Workers Union (UFW) denounced the arrest of at least 14 farm workers on their way to work on their employer’s bus as part of an ICE operation in the Albion area of upstate New York.
Guest: Teresa Romero, President and Director, UFW, Keene, CA.
New Orders Targeting Immigrants. President Trump signed three more executive orders, including one targeting “sanctuary cities” that refuse to cooperate on deportation operations and threatening to suspend their federal funding and pursuing legal action. A second order would provide legal support to police officers accused of wrongdoing and provide military equipment to local police. A third executive order seeks to enforce existing rules requiring truck drivers to be proficient in English and remove from the road any driver who cannot speak and read English. One of the orders seeks to end in-state tuition for undocumented college students.
