Will We Speak Up to Save the Monarch Butterfly from Extinction?
After years of analysis and expert warnings, federal authorities protecting wildlife are proposing to designate the monarch butterfly as a “threatened species.” Environmentalists hail the decision as a key step for the survival of the butterfly, which is threatened by climate change and pesticides as it migrates from Canada, passes through the United States, and winters in Mexico. The designation could be made official next year, after months of public consultation. Will we participate in protecting the butterfly? José López Zamorano brings us the details from Washington, DC.
