California Governor Gavin Newsom and the state legislature announced an agreement on the state spending plan. School leaders warn that while education funding was largely protected, they are concerned about some provisions, such as reductions in staffing levels and lower student enrollment.

Albert Gonzalez, president of the California School Boards Association, explains what the budget agreement means for schools across the state.

He recalled that there are some points that concerned them about the proposal, which will affect in the coming years and will not be able to support schools.

He added that the proposal is fine in the short term, without sufficient resources, but in the long term it could affect school workers.

He indicated that there are still challenges ahead, but he explains what the impact on public education will be, since there are even fewer students and schools could be closed.
He said that the objective is not to make cuts so as not to affect students.

The president of the California School Boards Association, comments that there is a phenomenon that from some areas where the standard of living is more expensive, families are moving to other cheaper areas and there has been an increase in student enrollment.

Albert Gonzalez, president of the California School Boards Association, asked the public to get informed and talk to their district’s school board because that is the best way to help their children and to use their voice when necessary.
