Radio listeners share testimonials of their care in Medi-Cal.
Recently, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara traveled throughout California to tell people who may be eligible for Medi-Cal, including undocumented immigrants, not to miss the opportunity to take advantage of Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid health care program, which pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited incomes. Since the beginning of the year, all Californians can enroll in Medi-Cal, regardless of their immigration status.
Commissioner Lara clarified that applying for this medical coverage will not affect their immigration procedures because it is not a public charge.
He also said that for 10 years they have been fighting for the health care of the population in the state to become a reality, because without health care the economy, education and many other areas are affected.
Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, recalls that California has laws that expand Health Care for All Adults, and that is a great help since there are also many families with mixed immigration status in the state.
Some Medi-Cal enrollees shared their experience through our programs, such as José Lauro Raramuri from Chihuahua.
Jose Lauro said that the insurance has helped him get his medical checkups, which he used to have to pay for himself and now his Medi-Cal insurance pays for them.
Sergio Jacinto, who lives in Fresno, is insured with Medi-Cal but has not gone to the doctor.
Another case is that of Jose Gomez, originally from Oaxaca.
The Insurance Commissioner reminds you that it is very important that you use this benefit, because if you do not use it you may lose the resources that have been allocated to you so that you and your family can have a family doctor or specialized care, visits to the dentist and psychological care.
