Push to Keep More Californians From Loosing Medi-Cal
Hundreds of people are being disenrolled from Medi-Cal, yet the California legislature failed to take protective measures for those at risk of losing their health insurance by not passing the Protecting Medi-Cal Coverage for Californians Act known as AB2956, which was intended to decrease the number of unfair terminations from the health protection program, as most of the terminations have been due to administrative issues rather than eligibility.
Mayra Álvarez of The Children’s Partnership, comments that they are currently fighting to prevent more people from being left without medical coverage, which is why they are looking for the government to take actions that are not necessarily changes in the law.
She believes that the Medi-Cal program needs to be improved, and they will continue to seek this with legislators and the state government.
She reveals that they are preparing a study that will allow them to know how long it takes to attend via telephone the requests of people interested in enrolling in Medi-Cal, and they will submit the study to the authorities so that the program can be improved.
Mayra Alvarez of The Children’s Partnership, reminds us that it is very important to be clear about how important it is to have good health and to have access to this tool that is medical coverage with Medi-Cal.
Mayra Alvarez, points out that now all people can access Medi-Cal, even those who are undocumented, without this affecting their regularization process in the country.
She said that they will continue to fight for the approval of the bill next year with more resources for Medi-Cal to reach the Latino population.
