Parents of Children with Disability

By Radio Bilingüe
Published December 19, 2024

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19
PROGRAM #10628 11:00 AM PT

Extra Edition: Parents of Children with Disability.

Parents who raise children with disabilities face a number of severe stressors that often lead to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Still, they often do not utilize services available to them. What challenges do they face? Why are they unable to utilize support services? What resources are available out there?

Guests: Daniela Rodriguez, News Reporter, Radio Bilingüe, Fellow for the California Local News Fellowship Program at UC Berkeley, Fresno, CA; Mariza Ochoa, Director/President, Escuchen Mi Voz, Stockton, CA; Marisela Moroyoqui, Mother of Alexander Moroyoqui, Spina Bifida Patient, Stockton, CA.

Youth Blues. Studies show that people with mental illness said the holidays make their condition worse, especially the youth. In response, health care officials are reaching out to advise people to learn how to cope with winter and holiday stress, and find mental health resources available for children and teenagers.

Guest: Dr. Diana Ramos, California Surgeon General, Sacramento, CA.

“Shopping Small.” Holiday sales are key for the revenues and survival of small businesses. The holiday season can make or break many small businesses. This year, small businesses are worried about the threats of rising tariffs and mass deportations, as well as the ongoing labor shortages. As small business is bracing for a drop in consumer spending, advocates reach out to the public in an effort to encourage shoppers to “shop small” and support local business this holiday season.

Guest: Carolina Martinez, Chief Executive Officer, CAMEO Network, Santa Cruz, CA.
