Organizations call for unity to confront Trump’s anti-immigrant policies
During his campaign, Trump promised to deport millions of immigrants and end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented parents, now that the Republican won, millions of immigrants are now living in fear and with an uncertain future.
Although other residents like Omar, a listener from Lancaster, California, believes that we should wait and not worry for the moment.
However, immigrant rights organizations believe that we should unite and be prepared to fight against Trump’s policies that target immigrants.
Mónika Y. Langarica, Senior Attorney at the Center for Immigration Law and Policy-CILP at UCLA School of Law, Los Angeles, talks about how we should take the president-elect’s announcements on immigration policies and points out that Trump seeks to create chaos and fear.
In addition, he says it is clear that the anti-immigrant measures will not distinguish between people with and without documents, or those with criminal records.
Remember that this has already been experienced in his past administration, we heard from Mónika Y. Langarica, Senior Attorney at the Center for Immigration Law and Policy-CILP at UCLA School of Law, Los Angeles.
But in this process of anti-immigrant policies, Attorney Mónika Y. Langarica, considers that the first to be targeted by the Trump administration are those who are already in the system.
She comments that people seeking asylum for the first time will also be affected.
Therefore, she recommends the community to know their rights and know that there are state laws that protect them.
Attorney Mónika Y. Langarica recognizes that it may start with migrants with a criminal record, but it will continue with the community in general, for that reason she calls for unity among the entire migrant community.
