For the first time, OpenAI, the organization that created ChatGPT, reached out to local communities to hear their ideas on how the development of this advanced technology could benefit them. To this end, it created an advisory committee made up of civic leaders, including Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW).

The commission presented its report recommending investment in communities to reduce the economic gap, democratize artificial intelligence, and ensure that OpenAI remains a non-profit organization.

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), admits that she was surprised to have been invited to join the advisory committee.

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), believes that AI is part of our lives and can be a blessing or a curse, depending on its purpose.

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), says she participated in the committee because she wants to help them fulfill their mission of benefiting humanity with this tool.

She explains that as part of the commission’s work, they consulted many people from different fields.

She also believes that there is a risk of job losses due to artificial intelligence.

Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers (UFW), recalls that among the things she highlighted as important is respect for work.

She also stresses that resources must be used to educate our community.

Artificial intelligence has been with us for a long time, even without our knowing it. For example, it is used in the maps that guide us on the road and in our phones when it predicts what we are typing in a text message, so it is always good to know what we are using and take advantage of it to our benefit.
