Noticiero Latino: ALBA Agricultural Incubator Program

By Radio Bilingüe
Published December 13, 2023

This time we will talk about one of the oldest agricultural incubator programs, the Agriculture and Agricultural Training Association-ALBA, which chose National Soil Day to celebrate 20 years of helping farmworkers become organic farmers, mainly migrants of Mexican origin.

ALBA supports primarily low-income workers in the Salinas Valley with scholarships, training and teachings of sustainable, resilient and earth-friendly agri-food systems.

Patricia Carrillo, executive director of the Agriculture and Agricultural Training Association-ALBA, recalls how the association began, and especially what results they have had since they started.

Patricia Carrillo, emphasizes that a significant number of registered farmers are still working and many have their business up and running.
She talks about the practices that are transmitted to take better care of our land, especially focusing on educating farmers.

ALBA’s board of directors points out that one of the objectives is that the participants inherit the teaching and that it is not lost over time.

She says that there is an ecosystem of organizations that support this program, for example, there are those who buy the organic products harvested by the farmers and value this production. In addition, they take courses so that they can also manage their business.

If you would like more information, look for the Agriculture and Agricultural Training Association – known as ALBA.

This is part of the “Cuando se seca el arroyo” series, supported in part by The Walton Family Foundation.
