Mexico prepares to defend Mexican nationals from anti-immigrant policies

With the start of Donald Trump’s new term in office and his threats of mass deportations, the Mexican government has implemented actions so that Mexican nationals are informed and have legal advice in case they face a critical situation such as deportation.

The Mexican government is testing a cell phone application that will allow migrants to send alerts to their families and Mexican consulates when they are about to be detained and deported.

Valeria Solorio, Consul for Protection and Legal Affairs at the Mexican Consulate in Fresno, CA; explains that in addition to the alert button, there is currently a call center that serves Mexican nationals.

She indicated that the Mexican government has a program to know and exercise your rights, Valeria Solorio explains what it is about.

She explained some cases in which this program could be applied and some recommendations on how to react.

She indicated that there is collaboration with various civil society organizations and contracted lawyers.
