Many people who maintained their health insurance are now with Covered California.

After losing Medi-Cal, tens of thousands of California residents continued to have health coverage through Covered California.

As you know, Covered California automatically enrolled people in a low-cost health plan when they lost Medi-Cal coverage so they could continue to receive financial assistance.

At an informational meeting held at a medical clinic in Fresno, California, representatives from Covered California and the California Department of Health Services reported that more than 150,000 Californians were able to maintain their coverage through the almost automatic transfer enrollment program.

Authorities have informed that there is no longer a deadline to enroll, the process will continue, even though the 13 months that were first established to make the transition have passed.

Dr. Trinidad Solis, Deputy Director of Public Health for the Fresno County Public Health Department in California, explains why it is important to have health insurance.

Dr. Trinidad Solis says that if some people do not have insurance, their illnesses become more complicated and they end up in the emergency room, and that is very expensive.
