There is concern among the Latino community about the restrictive changes announced by Donald Trump upon his arrival to the White House, Radio Bilingüe listeners share some of their concerns or advice about these post-election times.
And as the Republican knows, he has made immigration and our community his workhorse, promising deportations and stricter border controls.
Throughout our Linea Abierta programs, some of you have called us and shared your thoughts, doubts and reflections like Ruth from Fresno California who said she is still in shock over the outcome of the election and is worried about Trump making good on his threats.
Jose from Mt. Vernon Washington, recalls that he and his family, like many immigrants, have suffered discrimination and has suffered from several generations ago, and believes that with the arrival of Trump it will be the same.
Francisco from Fresno California, also remembers that it has been very hard for immigrants when governments apply immigration measures with a racist charge.
Some others are confident that Trump will not follow through on his threats like Angel from Tulare.
However, others like Jose from Napa, says better safe than sorry.
Omar from Lancaster thinks that a four-year term will not be enough for Trump to carry out his threats, but he asked to be attentive, informed and prepared in case it is necessary to fight in the streets for the rights of immigrants.
Experts recommend to be well informed, and to approach institutions that defend the rights of immigrants.
