Lawmakers Strike Bipartisan Agreement, Avoiding Economic Catastrophe

A bipartisan agreement in the House of Representatives to raise the debt ceiling for two years is seen as a triumph for Democrats and moderate Republicans. The compromise, criticized by progressive Democrats and radical Republicans, freezes public spending levels, expands requirements for social programs, and will use unspent funds earmarked to address the pandemic, among others.
