Latino Voters in North Carolina
As we approach next November’s presidential election, organizations are stepping up their work to raise awareness among the Latino population.
In addition, community groups are working to promote the Latino vote, as is the case in North Carolina, where the Latino population is rapidly increasing, more than any other racial group in the state and now exceeds one million people.
Marlene Martinez, Deputy Director of Grassroots for the organization Siembra North Carolina, says they are currently traveling the state to register new voters.
Sometimes it is inaccessible, and she comments on the challenges they face in getting people to participate.
She says they heard discouragement from young people but they are trying to motivate them to participate in issues that concern us as a community, let’s hear from Marlene Martinez.
