In light of anti-immigrant measures and raids that have intensified following the repeal of a policy that protected hospitals, churches, and schools from immigration networks, fear is growing among immigrants, who often stop going to medical checkups, putting their health at risk.

Some healthcare professionals, clinics, and insurers have used telemedicine and home visits to continue caring for patients who are afraid to leave their homes.

Paula Andalo, Spanish editor at KFF Health News, recalls why these types of measures are being used again, as they were during the COVID-19 pandemic, and acknowledges that this type of care is limited, especially because some treatments cannot be done remotely.

Paula Andalo says that if treatment is not continued, there is a great health risk.

She comments that there are medical conditions that can become complicated.

In addition, she acknowledges that this situation can make medical care more expensive. Let’s hear from Paula Andalo, Spanish Editor at KFF Health News.

Another issue is that the pandemic of fear of deportation means that migrant patients who are afraid to go out for fear of being deported only go to emergency rooms.

Paula Andalo, Spanish Editor, KFF Health News, warns that another problem is that mental health is also deteriorating.
