Fentanyl and Xylazine Crisis Among Latino Youth in Colorado

The fentanyl crisis keeps young Latinos at high risk so it is important that the issue is discussed within families to prevent overdose deaths.

There is a tranquilizer called xylazine that is a threat because it is linked to the growing opioid epidemic and deaths, in Colorado alone 2,000 lives are lost to drug overdoses.

In the state of Colorado, incoming Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, has her first bill in Congress, which focuses precisely on the growing threat of xylazine.

Caraveo, who is also a pediatric doctor, speaks to the devastating impact of fentanyl and methamphetamine overdoses among Latino youth.

How to prevent our young Latinos from falling into drugs, the legislator believes that communication is very important with the family.

She said that a relevant element is to take care of mental health, because many times young people feel depression and anxiety because of social networks.
