AB 2074 was recently repealed, so advocates for English language learners consider this an important change, as this legislation is a key step in the implementation of the California English Learner Roadmap, which drives the state’s English learner roadmap.

The policy was adopted in 2017, however in many districts have yet to implement it , it establishes clearer measures to ensure it is implemented and to hold educational agencies accountable through tracking goals.

Cristina Salazar Legislative Advocate for Californians Together, explains what this roadmap is all about.

She also says that it enriches the curriculum and classrooms for learning.

She recognizes that it’s not just one type of student in the English learner population, everyone has a different story.

Cristina Salazar Legislative Advocate for Californians Together, recalls that her organization, researchers and educators made the roadmap.

She talks about the timeline and how it will be implemented.

Cristina Salazar comments that parents can also participate so that students will have a more enriched education.

This law will result in a more equitable program for students, which will allow them to have a better future.

But how to make sure that the plan reaches all parts of California, as there are different needs in each district.

Finally, Cristina Salazar, Legislative Advocate for Californians Together, points out that there is a recognition of the importance of bilingual and cultural education and a challenge is the lack of bilingual educators.
