California Prepares for Battles Against Trump’s Policies – As Donald Trump’s inauguration date approaches, California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom called for a special session of the state congress. Newsom asked the legislature for a $25 million appropriation for legal defense against the new Republican administration’s announced threats to environmental protections, women’s civil and reproductive rights, and immigrant families. Civic organizations applauded the news. Alejandro Maciel reports with details from Los Angeles.
Mexican Academics Boycott Israel over Gaza Genocide – More than a year after Israel first invaded Gaza following an attack by Hamas, the siege in Gaza continues and allegations of war crimes and genocide are growing, now in the neighboring country of Lebanon. Despite a tenuous ceasefire, hostilities and the humanitarian crisis continue. Thousands of concerned academics from Mexico and around the world are calling for a boycott of Hebrew universities and an end to the war. Gerardo Guzman spoke with some of these professors and he brings us this report.
