DACA Recipient Makes History, Joins the Mexican Senate

As is known in the election that took place in Mexico, Karina Ruiz was elected the first migrant living abroad to hold a seat in the Mexican Senate, making history, she is a resident of Phoenix, she is also a grandmother activist and DACA beneficiary.
She says that one of her goals is to visit the entire U.S. listening to migrants and their needs, but also to dreamers like her.
Olga Leticia Chávez Rojas, Congresswoman from Mexico, who was reelected and resides in Los Angeles, also comments that her work will focus on making sure that consulates really attend to migrants.
Karina Ruiz agrees, pointing out that Mexicans abroad must be heard and attended to in the consulates and that the supervision of services abroad is the responsibility of the Senate, where she will be working.
That has been a demand almost in unison from the paisanos in the U.S., that they really have support from the consulates.
Karina Ruiz said that she went to the consulate in Denver and comments on what she can see there and the needs of the paisanos.
She also reveals that many people in the community say that appointments are sold, this cannot happen.
She talks about how many people at the Consulates complain about poor service.
Karina Ruiz said that the consular service must improve, she said that it is the senate’s task to supervise that they work.
On the issue of insecurity and corruption there is a challenge Karina recognizes, she says it is necessary to address the root problems.
Octavia Hernandez Ferrer, Alternate Senator Migrant of Mexico, took the opportunity to invite the people to participate and as citizens to make changes.
Mario Torres, outgoing congressman, asked the Paisanos to get to know them and their proposals, he said that they are working to make laws in favor of the paisanos living in the US.
