Daca beneficiaries to avoid insurance enrollment scams
President Biden recently announced that about half a million undocumented immigrants who are married to U.S. citizens will be able to apply for humanitarian “parole in place” and be protected from deportation.
Some concerned congressional Democrats are calling on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to ensure that DACA recipients can actually access the health insurance offered by the Affordable Care Act when they become eligible in November.
Óscar Chacón, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Alianza Américas in Chicago, says the administration should expedite the process.
He said that we are currently in the process of providing information for DACA recipients to prepare their documents.
Also in states like Texas where there are more difficulties due to racism and there are profiteers who seek to deceive the dreamers.
It is important to remember that the White House has informed that DACA beneficiaries can obtain medical coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
The new measure will go into effect on November 1 and, according to projections by President Biden’s administration, will allow more than 100,000 young people to access health insurance.
The rule ensures that DACA recipients are eligible to enroll in a Qualified Health Plan (QHP) through the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace or for coverage through a Basic Health Program (BHP). Eligible individuals will be able to select a health plan during the 60 days after the effective date of the rule (November 1, 2024), coinciding with the 2025 Open Enrollment Period.
Those who apply for coverage in November 2024 may begin coverage as of December 1, 2024, if they meet all other eligibility requirements, DACA recipients could also receive financial assistance for the purchase of health insurance depending on their income.
