DACA beneficiaries can still apply for health coverage
Soon many Dreamers will have health insurance, thanks to the new Biden-Harris rule that will allow, starting November 1, 2024, about 100,000 beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to access health coverage through a Basic Health Program (BHP) under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
From the time of enrollment, they will have a two-month period to choose a health plan through the health insurance marketplaces, and depending on their income may also be able to access financial assistance to obtain coverage.
Laura Vazquez, Associate Director of Migrant Integration at Unidos US, recognizes the strong interest of young Dreamers to be able to access health insurance during the upcoming enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act, ACA.
As you know for a long time DACA recipients were excluded from all federally funded health coverage options, so it is important that they now have the information to be able to enroll, let’s hear from Laura Vazquez Associate Director of Migrant Integration at Unidos US.
Laura Vazquez talks about what DACA recipients can do to prepare for the enrollment process.
Laura Vazquez says they are working to ensure that those who provide information to DACA recipients are well informed and truly helping young DACA recipients.
Laura Vázquez, Associate Director of Migrant Integration at Unidos US, believes that in order to reach the beneficiaries of this measure of the federal administration, it is very important that those who provide information to interested parties are people who come from community organizations, as they are the ones who have the trust of the community.
