Contrast between presidential candidates’ health care proposals

According to some organizations, among the main concerns of Latino voters is health care and health coverage, NALEO and Unidos US, place this issue in the number 6 place among the priorities of Latinos.

Paula Andalo, News Editor of Kaiser Family Foundation Health News talks about the contrasts between the candidates for the U.S. presidency, commenting that this issue encompasses the entire population at different ages and is a priority issue.

In the case of medical coverage known as Obama care, Paula Ándalo argues that Republican Donald Trump has sought, unsuccessfully, to eliminate this program, while Democratic candidate Kamala Harris wants it to continue and be extended and recalled that during the Biden administration, the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) was enacted, which temporarily extended eligibility.

In addition, he commented that Kamala Harris is supporting the continuation of the supports and recalled that this administration increased the ACA Marketplace subsidies, which were extended by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) through 2025.

Paula Andalo, News Editor for Kaiser Family Foundation Health News, said that whether they continue or are eliminated will depend on who wins the November 5 election.

She recalls that support has also been given to a group that is potentially decisive in the election, which is young people, particularly dreamers, DACA beneficiaries who will now be able to access the insurance marketplace in November.

On the issue of abortion, Paula Ándalo, comments that Trump and the Republicans say that the issue should be handled at the state level although she had celebrated the setback of eliminating the right of women to decide.

While Harris is in favor of women’s right and also reproductive health care.

On gun-related violence and mental health, Paula Andalo, comments that thousands of young people die from gun-related issues.

Harris supports limiting gun use and taking guns out of military use, while Trump supports carrying guns.
