Climate crisis affects human rights

Climate change is increasingly posing a threat to human rights, particularly in the poorest and most vulnerable communities, where displacement due to flooding or intense waves of clearing are most intense.

In addition, the United Nations has asked the judges of the International Court of Justice to rule on what international law requires States to do about climate change, and seeks to hold governments that damage the climate legally accountable.

Rubí Martínez, Deputy Director of Climate Power in Action, explains the relationship between climate change impacts and human rights.

The activist states that the climate crisis threatens the human rights of the people who suffer most from the consequences of extreme heat, storms and floods.
