By Radio Bilingüe
Published March 17, 2025

More than 23,000 children suffer cardiac arrest each year, but 20% of them are infants or babies.

Cardiac arrests also represent between 10% and 15% of sudden and unexpected infant deaths.

As we can detect that our baby is suffering a cardiac arrest, it is important to learn how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and remind parents and caregivers of young children not to be afraid to do it.

Dr. Johanna Contreras, Cardiologist, American Heart Association Volunteer, Director of the Division of Heart Failure at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West, New York, discusses how serious and how big a problem cardiac arrest is in infants.

Dr. Johanna Contreras, Cardiopulmonary Respiration CPR, can help infants and tells us what to do if we find ourselves in a cardiac arrest.
If 30 compressions followed by 2 breaths, but Dr. Johanna Contreras, recommends what to do .

How to know and identify what is happening due to cardiac arrest.

There is something that can be done to prevent or what parents or caregivers can do, the important thing is to learn how to resuscitate the babies.

Remember that every year thousands of babies suffer cardiac arrests outside the hospital, at home or daycare, so it is important to learn what to do.
