Some legislators have introduced a bill that seeks to compensate farm workers who lose their jobs due to extreme weather, public health emergencies and other weather-related catastrophes.

In response, farmworker leaders say that if the government can help business owners and ranchers when their land and farm products are affected, it should also support the workers, the farmworkers.

Antonio De Loera-Brust, director of communications for the United Farm Workers Union, says it would be fair for workers to also receive support from the government when weather conditions cause them to lose their jobs.

In addition, he says workers in our community face other challenges of daily life such as paying for services.

Antonio De Loera-Brust, indicates that there is no support network for our farmers who are the ones who provide us with the food we consume.

Antonio De Loera-Brust, addresses some of the challenges that this law faces before it is passed, mainly rejection from the Republicans.

He says there is much that can be done, let’s hear from Antonio De Loera-Brust, communications director for the United Farm Workers.

He points out that they will continue to fight for this law to move forward and protect farm workers.
