THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16

PROGRAM #10929 11:00 AM PT

Lucas Benítez and the Fair Food Program (Repeat).

Farmworker Lucas Benítez and fellow organizers in Florida founded a group that, within a few years, compelled fast food giants like Taco Bell and McDonald’s to sign Fair Food Agreements, marking a turning point in the fight against modern-day slavery and labor abuse among the lowest-paid workers. Two decades later, the program is internationally recognized as a model of corporate accountability led by workers. In this episode, part of the “Thirty Years, Thirty Voices” series, Benítez reflects on the movement’s victories and today’s pressing challenges. Archival conversations from the time leading up to the first historic agreement are also included. This special repeat is in observance of World Food Day. The program was originally aired on September 2, 2025.

Guest: Lucas Benítez, Co-founder and Co-coordinator, Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), Immokalee, FL.
