PROGRAM #10932 12:00 PM PT

Live from Memphis! Neighbors Question Massive Supercomputer.

Elon Musk hails his Colossus supercomputer in Memphis as the most powerful in the world and the largest investment of its kind in the city’s history. Yet residents and environmentalists warn that its gas turbines bring massive air pollution, harm public health, and strain the local aquifer. What are the risks and benefits of the project? How pervasive is the pollution? Who are the most affected communities? How was the permitting process carried out?  This episode, part of the “Cuando se seca el arroyo” series, airs live from Memphis, Tennessee in collaboration with local station WGSF, Radio Ambiente.

Guests: María Oceja, Co-founder and Organizer, Vecindarios 901, Memphis, TN; Isa Flores and Andres Flores, Environmental Leaders and Organizers, Vecinos Unidos, Memphis, TN; Angie Martinez, Resident, Wheel Estate Mobile Home Park, Whitehaven, TN.
